Fox News host Jesse Watters recently took aim at several prominent Democratic figures featured in a New Yorker photo shoot, which he described as showcasing their “smug” demeanor.
The spread, titled “Power Houses,” offers a glimpse into the lives of some of New York’s wealthiest and most influential residents, including notable personalities such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and philanthropist Alex Soros.
Watters used his platform to critique not only the individuals but also the larger narrative around their public personas.
During his show, Watters began by criticizing the Democrats for what he perceives as their inability to persuade the public through traditional means.
He stated, “They can’t persuade you, so they’re expressing themselves through art.” This comment set the tone for his mockery of the photo shoot, which he felt was an attempt by these politicians to craft a more relatable or artistic image in light of their political challenges.
Watters showcased various images from the New Yorker feature, starting with civil rights activist and MSNBC contributor Rev. Al Sharpton.
He highlighted a particular photo of Sharpton lounging in his socks in front of a dog crate, with a self-portrait hanging on the wall.
Watters quipped, “Not even Jesse Watters has a portrait of himself hanging up in his living room,” implying that Sharpton’s self-importance was out of touch with reality.
Next, he turned his attention to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who was depicted knitting a sweater on her couch next to her French bulldog.
Watters remarked, “AOC has never turned down a photo shoot,” poking fun at her well-documented penchant for media appearances.
He suggested that her casual pose, while charming, was indicative of a political strategy focused more on optics than substance.
Watters then critiqued Ella Emhoff, daughter of Vice President Kamala Harris, who was featured in a photo surrounded by bales of yarn and street art.
Emhoff’s attire and relaxed stance drew Watters’s ire, as he questioned the seriousness of her engagement with political issues.
He commented on her tattoos and overall aesthetic, suggesting that such images do little to contribute to meaningful political discourse.
The Fox News host also had sharp words for Alex Soros, the son of billionaire George Soros.
In Soros’s photo, he was shown lounging in a colorful outfit alongside Huma Abedin, former aide to Hillary Clinton.
Watters sarcastically noted their laid-back posture and the luxurious setting, implying that they were more interested in maintaining a fashionable lifestyle than addressing the pressing issues facing ordinary Americans.
Finally, Watters included Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker in his critique, referencing a photo Pritzker released on Star Wars Day.
He mocked the governor’s size and the way he held a lightsaber, humorously stating that people were calling him “JB the Hutt.”
This comment aimed to underscore what Watters sees as a lack of seriousness among Democratic leaders, framing their attempts at humor and relatability as misguided.
