CNN anchor Jake Tapper has now reportedly taken a strong stance against the Biden administration, accusing it of misleading the public by labeling unflattering video clips of President Joe Biden as “cheap fakes.”

This terminology emerged in 2024 as concerns about Biden’s mental acuity intensified during his presidential campaign, particularly as various videos surfaced that depicted him in moments of apparent confusion or hesitation.

One of the most discussed incidents occurred in June 2024 when a video circulated by the Republican National Committee went viral, showing Biden seemingly freezing on stage during a fundraiser alongside former President Barack Obama.

In response to this footage, White House Senior Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates dismissed it as a “cheap fake,” arguing that it had been deceptively edited.

Bates claimed that Biden was simply pausing to acknowledge applause from the audience before continuing. This explanation, however, did little to quell the growing concern about Biden’s mental fitness, especially among critics.

During a conversation with CNN anchor John Berman, Tapper revisited this incident, asserting that the Biden administration’s dismissal of such videos as “cheap fakes” had become a regular tactic to deflect criticism.

He pointed out that the reactions from those present at the fundraiser—such as Congresswoman Annie Kuster and former Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau—indicated that they were genuinely worried about Biden’s condition. They observed his demeanor and felt that something was amiss, leading to heightened scrutiny of his health.

Tapper, who is also a co-author of the book Original Sin, which critiques the Biden team’s attempts to manage public perception regarding the president’s health, underscored the importance of transparency in government communication.

He emphasized that the videos in question were authentic moments that reflected genuine interactions, rather than manipulated content designed to mislead viewers.

This controversy sheds light on broader issues regarding transparency and accountability in the Biden administration, particularly as it grapples with public perception amid ongoing debates about Biden’s age and fitness for office.

The administration’s reliance on the “cheap fake” narrative raises significant questions about how liberals communicate with the public and the implications of such strategies for trust in government.

As the conversation continues, Tapper’s critiques contribute to a larger conversation surrounding the responsibilities of democrat leaders to provide honest and clear communication about their capabilities and health.
