Matt Gaetz, a former Republican representative from Florida, has now reportedly stated in a new interview that he is “beginning to think about” running for governor of Florida in the year 2026.
During an interview with the Tampa Bay Times, the previous member of Congress who is now a television host stated that his primary priority will be dealing with the problem in the insurance industry.
In an interview with the Tampa Bay Times, Gaetz stated that he requires additional time to pray about his decision and deliberate with his wife on the topic.
“I have a compelling vision for the state. I understand how to fix the insurance problem, and it’s not to hand the keys to the state over to the insurance industry.” Gaetz said in an interview.
“If I run, I would be the most proconsumer candidate on the Republican side,” he added.
Gaetz resigned from his position in Congress shortly after being considered for the position of attorney general under President-elect Trump.
This interview occurs after Gaetz’s resignation. Gaetz declined to be considered for the position because of concerns regarding an ethical investigation into claims of sexual misbehavior and the use of illegal drugs.
A report on the House Ethics Committee’s inquiry of the firebrand Florida Republican was issued, despite the fact that the committee had been investigating him for almost three and a half years prior to his retirement from Congress.
According to the investigation, there is “substantial evidence” that Gaetz broke House rules, as well as state and federal crimes.
The report details charges of prostitution, statutory rape, and illicit drug usage, among other things. Every wrongdoing has been refuted by Gaetz.
Gaetz stated in an interview with the Tampa Bay Times that he does not consider the conclusions of the research to be a barrier to his opportunity to run for public office once more.
“Those lies have been told about me for years. They’ve never affected my ability to win elections.” he concluded.
