In a bold declaration, Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania reportedly expressed unequivocal support for Israel’s potential military action against Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
During an interview on Fox News, Fetterman stated, “Yeah, 100 percent,” when asked if Israel should have targeted Khamenei amid escalating tensions between the two nations.
The conflict, which has intensified over the past week, saw Israel conducting extensive airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and missile sites, resulting in the deaths of key Iranian officials.
In response, Iran has retaliated with its own airstrikes, further heightening regional volatility. Fetterman characterized Israel’s strategy as effective, noting, “The way Israel operates, they just take out the leadership, just like they did with Hezbollah,” and questioned why Khamenei had not been targeted in the ongoing military operations.
Fetterman’s comments reflect his steadfast support for Israel, particularly in light of its ongoing war with Hamas in Gaza.
He has consistently advocated for unwavering American commitment to Israeli security, reinforcing his stance in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter) where he wrote, “Our commitment to Israel must be absolute and I fully support this attack.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not ruled out a strike on Khamenei, stating in a recent interview that the current operations could lead to significant changes in the Iranian leadership.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump echoed sentiments of potential strikes on Khamenei, indicating that while the Supreme Leader is an “easy target,” immediate action has not been decided.
The current hostilities between Israel and Iran represent one of the most direct confrontations in decades, fueled by Iran’s continued advancements in its nuclear program, which violate international non-proliferation agreements.
The Islamic Republic has long threatened Israel’s existence and has actively supported proxy groups that attack both Israeli and U.S. interests throughout the region.
As tensions mount, Fetterman’s remarks underline a significant alignment within segments of the Democratic Party regarding support for Israel, contrasting with some progressive voices advocating for a more cautious approach to military intervention.
As the situation develops, Fetterman’s position may further shape the discourse surrounding U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East.
