Chuck Todd, who was the long running moderator of “Meet the Press,” is reportedly now departing NBC.
After being replaced as “Meet the Press” moderator by Kristen Welker in 2023 after serving as chair for nine years, Todd has become a much less visible presence on the network.
On Friday, he announced his departure from NBC.
On Friday morning, Todd shared his choice with his coworkers at NBC. Additionally, it will be his last day.
He also mentioned that his “ChuckToddcast” will soon have a “new home” and that he will be taking it with him.
Additionally, he mentioned that he intends to start a new business that might link local and national news.
“At my core, I’m an entrepreneur — I spent my first 15 years professionally working for the company that started the political newsletter craze that dominates today. And this is a ripe moment. The only way to fix this information eco system is to stop whining about the various ways the social media companies are manipulating things and instead roll up our collective sleeves and start with local. National media can’t win trust back without having a robust partner locally and trying to game algorithms is no way to inform and report. People are craving community and that’s something national media or the major social media companies can’t do as well as local media.” Todd announcedl
Nevertheless, an era at NBC News comes to an end with Todd’s departure. Tim Russert, the Meet the Press moderator and then-head of NBC’s D.C. bureau, hired him in 2007; in 2014, he was promoted to moderator of the show.
During his tenure, the show launched new platforms, such as a Meet the Press-branded film festival, and ventured into streaming.
Although he promised to continue as chief political analyst, he formally turned over the Sunday public affairs show to current moderator Kristen Welker in the fall of 2023.
