Bondi Says DOJ Probing “Lawfare” as Criminal Conspiracy Targeting Trump, Conservatives

Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed that the Department of Justice has launched an investigation into what she described as years of politically motivated “lawfare” carried out under former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, arguing the actions amount to an “ongoing criminal conspiracy” aimed at undermining President Donald Trump and his supporters.

In an interview with the conservative outlet Just The News, Bondi said she has directed prosecutors to examine what she characterized as an organized effort to manipulate elections and weaponize federal law enforcement. According to Bondi, that effort was used to persecute Trump and conservatives while shielding prominent Democrats from scrutiny.

Bondi said she asked U.S. attorneys and federal investigators to probe what she called an “ongoing election-meddling conspiracy,” framing it as a coordinated abuse of power that spanned multiple administrations. She argued the alleged misconduct was not isolated but systemic, involving senior government officials and federal agencies.

“At my direction, our U.S. Attorneys and federal agents are actively investigating instances of government weaponization nationwide,” Bondi said. “This is a ten-year stain on the country committed by high-ranking officials against the American people.”

The investigation aligns with long-standing claims from FBI Director Kash Patel, who has repeatedly argued that the investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election was a hoax. Patel has predicted that the Justice Department would eventually expose what he described as Democrats’ weaponization of law enforcement against political opponents.

According to the report by Just The News editor-in-chief John Solomon, charging potential defendants under a theory of criminal conspiracy could have major legal implications. Solomon wrote that conspiracy charges effectively bypass statute-of-limitations issues because the alleged wrongdoing is considered ongoing, similar to how organized crime cases are prosecuted.

Bondi said recent disclosures by the Justice Department and the FBI have already laid critical groundwork for such a case. She praised both agencies for releasing what she called an unprecedented volume of documents to Congress related to government weaponization, arguing that the material supports a broader conspiracy narrative.

“This evidence illustrates that the FBI shielded political figures like Hunter Biden and Hillary Clinton while pursuing conservatives for their beliefs,” Bondi said. She claimed federal authorities relied on excessive legal tactics against conservatives while failing to focus on public safety threats such as violent crime and the ongoing crisis at the border.

Bondi further alleged that federal agents went so far as to execute search warrants that officials within their own departments believed were excessive. She argued those actions reflected a deliberate misuse of law enforcement power rather than legitimate criminal investigations.

“This Department of Justice takes government weaponization seriously,” Bondi said. “That means protecting civil liberties, preventing election interference, and holding bad actors accountable. No one is above the law, even if they think they are.”

According to the report, a significant portion of the investigation is centered in Florida, the same state where Trump’s home was raided by federal authorities in 2022. That raid has long been cited by Trump allies as a prime example of what they argue is politically driven enforcement.

Bondi’s comments mark one of the clearest signals yet that the Trump administration intends to aggressively revisit past federal investigations and scrutinize the actions of officials involved. As the probe moves forward, it is likely to intensify political debate over the limits of federal power, accountability inside government agencies, and whether the justice system was used as a political weapon against Trump and his supporters.
