A man carrying a gun was arrested Monday after driving up to a security barricade outside the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., prompting a swift response from law enforcement and a temporary closure of the area as investigators worked to determine what happened.
According to a statement obtained by Newsweek, the incident occurred at the north barricade of the Capitol, where officers with the U.S. Capitol Police took the suspect into custody.
Following the arrest, a significant police presence gathered around the scene. Multiple emergency vehicles were seen surrounding a gray Ford Bronco near the barricade as officers secured the area and began their investigation.

“The North Barricade will be closed while the USCP investigates,” the spokesperson added.

“Our investigators are working to learn more about the suspect and why he drove to the U.S. Capitol,” the spokesperson said.
