Newark Democratic Mayor Ras Baraka was reportedly arrested on Friday for allegedly trespassing at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility.

Following his arrest, Alina Habba, the Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, spoke to Fox News to express her views on the incident.

Baraka, along with three New Jersey Democratic Congress members—Monica McIver, Bob Menendez Jr., and Bonnie Watson Coleman—visited Delaney Hall, an ICE facility expected to hold 1,000 immigrants.

Habba tweeted that Baraka ignored multiple warnings from Homeland Security Investigations to leave the premises, asserting, “He has willingly chosen to disregard the law. That will not stand in this state. He has been taken into custody. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW.”

On Fox News, host Martha MacCallum noted that Baraka was reportedly outside the facility’s fencing and that the lawmakers claimed they felt intimidated by federal officials.

Habba countered these assertions, stating that Baraka had entered the facility and had been warned multiple times to leave. She insisted that Baraka was arrested inside the building after refusing to comply with orders.

Habba accused the Democrats of “grandstanding,” emphasizing that breaking the law cannot be justified by political theatrics. “When you break the law, there’s no grandstanding that will help you,” she stated.

Alina Habba, who previously served as a personal attorney for Donald Trump, has been appointed to her current role as the federal prosecutor in New Jersey.

The arrest has sparked discussions about the ongoing tensions surrounding immigration policy and the actions of local officials.
