On Friday, Hunter Biden has now changed his stance and declared his readiness to provide closed-door testimony to Congress in response to new subpoenas issued by the House Oversight and Judiciary committees.
Abbe Lowell, the attorney for Hunter Biden, extended the offer to Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Oversight and Accountability Committee Chair James Comer (R-Kentucky) in a letter dated Friday.
Both Comer and Jordan are prominent Republicans and have presided over the investigations into the Biden family and President Biden’s impeachment.
Prior to last month, the son of President Biden had previously refused a subpoena to appear for a closed-door deposition and had only agreed to testify in public.
As a result, Republicans advanced a resolution to hold him in contempt of Congress, following Hunter Biden’s unexpected appearance on one of the panels debating the measure.
Lowell contended that the November subpoenas issued by the Judiciary and Oversight committees were null and void on the grounds that the House had not formally authorized an impeachment investigation into Biden until December.
To make a point about his willingness to testify in public, Hunter Biden made an unexpected appearance at a meeting of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee on Wednesday, prior to the panel’s scheduled approval of the resolution to hold him in contempt of Congress.
Hunter Biden was accompanied to the oversight hearing on Wednesday by Lowell and Kevin Morris, an associate and entertainment lawyer who is scheduled to testify next week regarding the financial assistance he provided to Hunter Biden.
Minutes later, as Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) was beginning to speak, they promptly exited the room.
