Tuesday, federal prosecutors announced that Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) was charged with 10 new criminal counts related to two additional alleged conspiracies during his campaign.
The additional indictment comes days after Santos’ former campaign treasurer, Nancy Marks, reached an agreement with prosecutors and pled guilty to conspiring with the then-candidate to exaggerate his campaign finance reports.
Prosecutors are now charging Santos with the “Party Program” scheme and the “Credit Card Fraud” scheme, both of which they refer to as “schemes.”
Santos entered a not-guilty plea in May in response to a 13-count indictment; the new allegations bring the total to 23.
The first scheme, according to prosecutors, was intended to ensure that Santos and his campaign qualified for a “national party committee” program that would provide financial and logistical support for Santos’ congressional candidacy.

To qualify, the New York Republican had to demonstrate his campaign raised at least $250,000 in a single quarter from third-party donors.
The second scheme allegedly involved Santos obtaining the identities and financial information of campaign contributors and repeatedly charging their credit cards without authorization, according to prosecutors.
The new charges include one count of conspiracy to commit crimes against the United States, two counts of wire fraud, two counts of making materially false statements to the Federal Election Commission (FEC), two counts of falsifying records submitted to obstruct the FEC, two counts of aggravated identity theft, and one count of access device fraud, according to prosecutors.
