After being charged with bribery, fraud, and extortion last week, New Jersey Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez’s popularity rating has now reportedly fell to 8%, according to a poll issued on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Menendez entered a not guilty plea to the allegations that he received expensive gifts, including cash, gold bars, and a luxury automobile, in exchange for political favors from the Senate.
According to a poll by the leftist organization Public Policy Polling, the senator has refused to resign in the wake of calls from his Democratic colleagues and has a 74% unfavorable approval rating.
According to the survey, Menendez would fall short of a “Republican Opponent” by double digits and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who is running for president, by 3 points if he were to seek re-election in 2024.
In a general election, the poll found that New Jersey Democratic Rep. Andy Kim, who declared a primary challenge to Menendez after the indictment, would easily defeat both a “Republican Opponent” and Christie.
From September 26 to September 27, the study interviewed 565 New Jersey voters.
