In order to identify the attacker and detect radiation bursts from nuclear weapons or dirty bombs, the United States is now reportedly installing sensors throughout Ukraine.
One of the objectives is to make sure that, in the event that Russia detonates a radioactive weapon on Ukrainian territory, both the weapon’s atomic signature and Moscow’s guilt can be confirmed.
In order to place radiation sensors, train staff, analyze data, and issue life-threatening radiation alerts, Ukraine is cooperating with the covert Nuclear Emergency Support Team, or NEST, a group of atomic specialists overseen by the security agency.
This recently obtained capacity is being employed abroad in the event of a nuclear conflict or a Russian assault on Ukraine’s 15 nuclear reactors located at four power plants.
The move is a significant sign that the U.S. may believe that a nuclear conflict over Ukraine could be becoming more and more likely.
