According to the White House, President Joe Biden is reportedly scheduled to make an announcement on an executive order on Tuesday that is set to make the purchase of firearms more difficult.
This order is anticipated to expand background checks to more firearm purchases by broadening the statutory definition of a guns dealer.
On his trip to Monterey Park, California, where he will meet with families and members of the community devastated by the tragic shooting that took place in January and left 11 people dead and nine others injured, President Biden is scheduled to sign the order.
According to statements made by the White House, the executive order will bring the United States extremely close to universal background checks without the need for additional legislation.
As part of the executive order, Biden is also giving Attorney General Merrick Garland instructions to develop and implement a plan to prevent formerly federally licensed firearms dealers from continuing to engage in the business of dealing in firearms after their licenses have been revoked or surrendered.
This directive is included in the executive order.
Also, the public’s awareness will be raised, and more severe measures of protection, such as “red flag” regulations and the secure storage of guns, will be utilized as a result of this directive.
The order instructs the attorney general to make the ATF documents that were inspected during the licensing of weapons dealers that were found to be in violation of federal firearm statutes publicly available.
The order also mandates the Department of Defense to create and execute principles to enhance firearm and public safety practices via DOD procurement of guns.
In accordance with the order, President Joe Biden will expedite and intensify the implementation of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act; improve federal support for survivors of gun violence, families of victims and survivors of gun violence, first responders to gun violence, and communities affected by gun violence; and advance congressional efforts to prevent the proliferation of firearms that can pass through metal detectors undetected.
According to the White House, the president will also ask the Federal Trade Commission to produce a public study examining how gun manufacturers sell weapons to minors.
This information will be based on an investigation into the marketing practices of gun manufacturers.
The new aggressive anti-gun order from Biden comes soon after he previously declared his intention to pass a new ban on so-called ‘assault weapons’ and high-capacity magazines.
