According to a recently proposed deal, New York City now plans to pay protestors from a 2020 rally following George Floyd’s murder a stunning $21,500 apiece.

Under the proposed settlement, the city has agreed to pay $21,500 to each participant of the class-action complaint.

In addition, an extra $2,500 will be paid to individuals who were issued “Desk Appearance Tickets.”

If accepted by a court, the settlement will cost the city between $4 million to $6 million in total.

According to reports, over 300 individuals attended the demonstration, and approximately 90 have already resolved with the city regarding alternative issues.

The protests began on May 29 of 2020 and continued for several weeks, with thousands of people taking to the streets to demand justice for George Floyd and other victims of police violence.

Many of the protests were peaceful, but some turned violent, with demonstrators clashing with police and causing damage to buildings and property.

During the protests, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio came under criticism for his handling of the situation, with some accusing him of being too lenient on protesters.

The lawsuit alleges that police violated the rights of demonstrators by ‘boxing’ them in during an attempt to corral the chaos of the protests.

A similar settlement was agreed to by the city of Washington D.C., in which it paid out millions for its treatment of individuals protesting against the World Bank in the year 2000.
