Maria Bartiromo is speaking out for the first time since her sudden split from Fox News, thanking supporters for their kindness a week after the network confirmed she was leaving.
The longtime anchor posted a short message on X Thursday, accompanied by a photo she said she’d taken of a rainbow breaking through cloudy skies. She expressed gratitude for the flood of supportive messages she’s received, telling followers she loves them and teasing that there’s “more to come.”
Fox first announced Bartiromo’s departure on September 3 in a brief statement thanking her for her contributions over the past twelve and a half years and wishing her well in her next chapter. The announcement caught much of the media world off guard.
That same day, a report from media reporter Oliver Darcy’s newsletter Status offered a more detailed account, alleging Bartiromo had shared with the White House an internal directive from Fox Business leadership instructing staff not to lend credibility to certain claims President Trump had made in a prime-time address concerning the 2020 election and China. The report characterized her actions as a betrayal of her employer.
That same account described her exit as a firing, a characterization her attorney has since pushed back on and disputed.
Regardless of how her departure is framed, the practical changes have been swift. Bartiromo’s biography was removed from the Fox Business website, and her weekday program, Mornings With Maria, has since been rebranded and is now hosted on a rotating basis by other anchors. Her Sunday program on Fox News is also expected to continue without her, featuring different hosts going forward. Her longtime producer was let go as part of the shakeup as well.
It later emerged that Bartiromo’s own staff had reportedly been instructed not to communicate with her for weeks leading up to the public announcement of her exit, adding another layer to an already messy departure.
For now, Bartiromo appears to be taking the high road publicly, choosing gratitude and a hint of what’s ahead over addressing the swirling reports directly. Whether her next move will shed more light on what actually happened behind the scenes remains to be seen, but her message suggests she isn’t disappearing from the spotlight for long.
This remains a developing story.
