In a letter delivered to the House Ethics Committee on Friday, a man who temporarily worked in Rep. George Santos’ (R-NY) office reportedly accused the beleaguered New York Republican of sexual harassment.
Derek Myers stated in a letter shared on Twitter that he worked as a volunteer in Santos’ office for a few days before a job offer to serve as a congressional staffer was revoked on Feb. 1.
According to the letter, Myers was alone in Santos’ office on Jan. 25 and was discussing correspondence received from constituents when the congressman inquired whether he had a Grindr account, a popular gay dating app.
According to the letter, Santos then informed him that he had a Grindr profile.
Myers stated Santos then invited him to sit next to him on a little couch, where he placed his hand on Myers’ knee, interrupting the discussion.
Santos invited Myers to karaoke that night, but Myers allegedly turned him down.
Then according to the letter, Santos stated that his husband was out of town and that Myers should come over, before moving his hand up Myers’ thigh to his crotch region.
Myers stated on social media that he also reported the incident to the U.S. Capitol Police.
Myers also claims that Santos’ office violated House Ethics rules in the letter.
Myers was charged with wiretapping in Ohio last year after releasing audio of trial testimony acquired from a source in the Scioto Valley Guardian.
Myers also covertly recorded a discussion he had with Santos, according to a statement Santos made to the news outlet Semafor, Santos claimed that Myers had violated his trust by recording the conversation.
Santos has been under fire for weeks due to the revelation that a plethora of claims he has made about his own biography have turned out to be fabrications.
