Bill Pulte, President Donald Trump’s controversial acting director of national intelligence, has now reportedly begun removing top national security officials on Friday in a move that had been widely anticipated.

The firings were first reported by White House reporter Vaughn Hillyard during an appearance on MS NOW.

Details about the officials affected by the personnel changes were not immediately provided in the report, but the action marks the beginning of what had been expected to be a broader shakeup within the nation’s intelligence and national security leadership under Pulte’s direction.

Pulte currently serves as the acting director of national intelligence, placing him in charge of overseeing the country’s intelligence apparatus.

His appointment has generated controversy, with critics questioning both his qualifications and his role within the Trump administration.

According to the report, Pulte has no military or national security experience.

Despite that background, he has been placed in one of the government’s top national security positions.

Friday’s firings were characterized as an expected development following his appointment, signaling what appears to be a significant change in leadership at the highest levels of the national security establishment.

Before taking on his current role, Pulte was involved in efforts targeting some of President Trump’s leading domestic political opponents.

According to the report, he previously led efforts to seek indictments against several of Trump’s political rivals on allegations of mortgage fraud.

Those legal efforts, however, have largely not held up in court.

The report states that the mortgage fraud charges pursued against those individuals have largely been dismissed.

The reported personnel changes come as Pulte begins shaping the leadership of the intelligence community in his capacity as acting director of national intelligence.

Although the report did not specify how many officials were dismissed or identify those affected, it noted that the firings had been widely expected before they were carried out on Friday.

The initial report marked the first public indication that the anticipated leadership changes had begun.

Pulte’s appointment and his subsequent actions have drawn attention because of his lack of prior experience in military or national security roles, as well as his previous involvement in pursuing legal action against some of Trump’s political opponents.

According to the report, those factors have contributed to the controversy surrounding his tenure as acting director of national intelligence.

With Friday’s dismissals now underway, the leadership of the nation’s national security apparatus has begun changing under Pulte’s direction, following weeks of expectations that personnel changes were imminent after he assumed the acting role.
