A White House task force is reportedly collecting thousands of documents from multiple U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies as President Donald Trump seeks to make additional information public regarding alleged election fraud in previous elections.
According to a report by NBC News, the effort could result in some of the gathered records being declassified and released to the public as part of the administration’s broader transparency initiative.
A White House official emphasized the administration’s commitment to making information available to Americans.
“As the most transparent president in history, President Trump is totally committed to sharing as much information with the public as possible,” the official told NBC News. “The administration will continue delivering on the president’s promise of unprecedented transparency.”
The report, citing five people familiar with the effort, said the task force is gathering documents related to the 2020 presidential election from several federal agencies. Those agencies reportedly include the Central Intelligence Agency, the National Security Agency, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the FBI and the Department of Justice.
According to the report, the document review comes in addition to investigations the Justice Department has already launched concerning the 2020 election.
NBC News reported that lawyers working with the task force have spent months reviewing the documents collected from the various agencies. The report also said the team has been encouraged to minimize redactions whenever possible.
“Members of the task force have been encouraged to try to limit redactions in declassified documents, even if that means keeping in the names of government officials or other people,” NBC News reported, citing two people with knowledge of the effort.
The records reportedly being assembled include materials related to alleged ballot irregularities, potential voting machine issues and other matters connected to the 2020 election.
The task force is said to include conservative writer John Solomon along with several former Trump administration officials, including former national security aide Derek Harvey.
Solomon recently announced that he would temporarily step away from his role at Just the News to accept an unpaid position with the Trump administration. At the time, he said his responsibilities would include identifying “some documents, some secrets you should know about when it comes to weaponization, election integrity, other things.”
The administration’s reported document review reflects President Trump’s continued focus on issues surrounding the 2020 election. Six years after his loss to former President Joe Biden, Trump continues to maintain that the election was rigged.
The article notes, however, that there has been no proof of the sort of widespread fraud that Trump has cited as the reason for his defeat.
The reported effort to gather and potentially declassify intelligence records marks another step in the administration’s ongoing examination of issues related to the 2020 election, with the possibility that additional government documents could become available to the public in the future.
