Hunter Biden is once again drawing attention online, this time with a sarcastic response to one of the most persistent controversies associated with his father’s presidency.
The son of former President Joe Biden, who has recently become more active on social media, used a Tuesday exchange on X to push back against claims that he was responsible for the small bag of cocaine discovered inside the White House in the summer of 2023.
The incident became a major political and media story after a “small bag of cocaine” was found on the ground floor of the White House’s West Wing in early July 2023. According to reporting by The Washington Post at the time, the white powder was discovered near an area where visitors on White House tours are instructed to leave their cellphones.
The discovery triggered a Secret Service investigation and generated a wave of questions directed at then-White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. It also fueled widespread speculation across social media and cable news, producing countless jokes, memes, and debates over who may have left the drugs behind.
Because of Hunter Biden’s well-publicized history of substance abuse, many critics and commentators quickly focused their attention on him. President Donald Trump and others publicly suggested that Hunter Biden could have been responsible for the cocaine found at the White House.
Now, nearly three years later, the controversy resurfaced after Biden resumed posting on X.
Although his account, @HunterBiden, was created in April 2013, all previous posts had been removed at some point. He returned to the platform last month and has largely focused his posts on addiction recovery and sobriety.
On June 1, Biden shared a message celebrating a major personal milestone, marking seven years of sobriety. In a short video, he thanked those who had supported him throughout his recovery journey.
“Everyone who has walked this road with me,” Biden said, expressing gratitude for their “love and support.”
He also offered encouragement to people currently struggling with addiction, saying there was “a way out, and that way out is together.”
While many social media users responded positively to the message, not everyone used the occasion to congratulate him.
One user replied bluntly to Biden’s sobriety post.
“Bullsh*t,” wrote the user identified as @Boiler32. “That was your bag of coke in the white house.”
Rather than ignoring the accusation, Biden chose to answer directly.
His response combined a denial of the claim with a self-deprecating joke referencing his past drug use.
“It most definitely was not,” Biden replied. “I would never have forgotten my drugs.”
The remark quickly drew attention online because it addressed a rumor that has followed him for years while also openly acknowledging the addiction struggles he has repeatedly discussed in public.
The exchange also highlighted the unusual way Biden has approached his recent return to social media. Instead of avoiding discussion of his past, he has frequently referenced his recovery journey and spoken openly about addiction and sobriety.
While questions surrounding the cocaine discovery generated intense political debate when it occurred, Biden’s latest response suggests he is willing to confront the lingering speculation with humor rather than outrage. His brief but pointed reply turned a familiar accusation into a joke at his own expense while reiterating his denial of any connection to the White House incident.
