On Thursday, Attorney General Merrick Garland has reportedly now appointed a special counsel to examine President Biden’s handling of confidential materials since the Obama administration.
Garland assigned the probe to Robert Hur, a former United States Attorney. On Thursday, the Justice Department moved from a review to a special counsel probe after a second stockpile of secret materials was discovered inside Biden’s garage in Wilmington, Delaware.
The initial documents were discovered inside the Penn Biden Center think tank’s Washington headquarters.
According to Garland, Hur worked in the DOJ’s criminal division, investigating counterterrorism, corporate fraud, and appellate concerns.
Hur served as the United States Attorney for the District of Maryland until 2021.
