President Donald Trump warned Thursday that he expects Iran to fully comply with the terms of a recently announced ceasefire, threatening “large-scale attacks” if Tehran fails to do so ahead of planned negotiations this weekend.

The remarks come as tensions between Washington and Iran have intensified over the scope of the agreement, particularly regarding Israel’s ongoing military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon. The dispute has raised new doubts about the durability of the already fragile truce.

According to the White House, the ceasefire agreement did not include any requirement for Israel to halt its campaign in Lebanon. Iranian officials, however, have accused the United States of violating the deal by allowing those operations to continue, writes CBS News.

Trump stated that he anticipates Iran will adhere to the conditions he described as having been agreed upon, warning that failure to do so would trigger a significant U.S. military response.

Markets reacted cautiously to the renewed uncertainty. Oil prices moved closer to $100 per barrel, while equities reflected investor concern as the initial optimism surrounding the ceasefire announcement began to fade.

Meanwhile, Iran has maintained tight control over the Strait of Hormuz, issuing warnings that vessels must obtain permission before transiting the critical waterway. Authorities have directed ships to follow designated routes through coastal waters to avoid sea mines and have imposed substantial fees for safe passage.

The developments mark a rapid shift from the brief period of optimism following the ceasefire declaration. With both sides now openly disputing the agreement’s terms, the stability of the truce remains in question as negotiations approach.
