Democratic Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania has reportedly been exhibiting concerning behavior amid an ongoing mental health crisis, raising alarms among those close to him.
According to a recent article in New York Magazine, Fetterman, who suffered a stroke in 2022 and later checked into Walter Reed hospital for depression, has faced challenges that have been more severe than publicly acknowledged.
Interviews with Fetterman’s inner circle reveal that his former chief of staff, Adam Jentleson, resigned due to worry over the senator’s erratic behavior.
Jentleson noted that Fetterman often neglects his medication, engages in reckless driving, and shares conspiratorial thoughts.
He remarked, “Part of the tragedy here is that this is a man who could be leading Democrats out of the wilderness,” but added that Fetterman is struggling in a way that should not be hidden from the public.
Fetterman has disputed the article’s claims, dismissing many of the anecdotes as unfounded. His staff has described his behavior at times as “manic” and “unhinged,” indicating a troubling trend.
In February 2023, shortly after being sworn in, Fetterman was reportedly found walking into traffic, highlighting his mental state.
Furthermore, his struggles have affected his personal relationships, particularly with his wife, Gisele.
Reports suggest that they have had heated arguments over Fetterman’s political decisions, including his stance on Israel and his voting choices.
Despite these challenges, Fetterman maintains that he is doing well, stating, “Everything’s great,” during an interview. However, the mounting concerns about his mental health could have significant implications for his political career and responsibilities.
