The House Committee on Homeland Security, led by Chairman Mark Green (R-TN), has now reportedly advanced several key bills aimed at enhancing national security, combating terrorism, and countering threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
It’s Green expressed pride in the committee’s efforts to legislate protections for Americans against various growing threats, including attempts by the CCP to influence U.S. higher education and infiltrate critical infrastructure.
The committee took significant steps to address the Biden administration’s border security challenges, with bills introduced by Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Clay Higgins (R-LA) focusing on increasing transparency regarding “Special Interest Aliens” at the border and improving detection of dangerous drugs, such as fentanyl, entering through land ports.
Among the notable legislations was Rep. August Pfluger’s (R-TX) H.R. 881, titled the “DHS Restrictions on Confucius Institutes and Chinese Entities of Concern Act.”
This bill seeks to prohibit the Department of Homeland Security from funding universities that host Confucius Institutes, along with requiring disclosures related to certain Chinese entities.
Pfluger also introduced H.R. 2158, the “Countering Transnational Repression Act of 2025,” establishing a working group with DHS to protect dissidents from China and Iran.
Rep. Clay Higgins’ H.R. 1569, the “CATCH Fentanyl Act,” aims to empower Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to implement new technologies for drug detection.
Additionally, Rep. Morgan Luttrell’s (R-TX) H.R. 1327, the “Syria Terrorism Threat Assessment Act,” focuses on assessing risks from individuals in Syria linked to terrorist organizations.
Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) introduced H.R. 2659, the “Strengthening Cyber Resilience Against State-Sponsored Threats Act,” targeting cybersecurity threats from the CCP.
The committee is now poised to work on swiftly passing these crucial bills to bolster U.S. security.
