ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith has now reportedly chosen to defend Elon Musk’s involvement in President Donald Trump’s administration, urging the public to withhold judgment and allow Musk the opportunity to demonstrate his intentions and effectiveness.

During an appearance on NewsNation’s “Cuomo,” Smith emphasized the importance of patience, suggesting that Musk’s efforts to enhance government efficiency could reveal hidden agendas and expose wasteful spending practices.

Smith acknowledged that while Musk is not an elected official, his appointment by the Trump administration to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) signifies a clear mandate to scrutinize and address frivolous financial practices within the federal government.

Smith highlighted the potential benefits of Musk’s initiative, particularly in trimming bureaucratic excess, reducing unnecessary regulations, and optimizing the use of taxpayer money.

Addressing concerns about Musk’s unconventional approach, Smith advised against immediate criticism, suggesting that allowing Musk to “rattle the cage” could lead to greater transparency and accountability within federal agencies.

“Again, there are liberal things I agree with, and there’s some conservative things I agree with. Let me tell you where I think Democrats are really, really messing up when it comes to Donald Trump at this particular moment in time.” Smith said.

“What they’re missing is that you messed up things so badly over the last several years, give the man a chance to see what he does. I’m looking at Donald Trump, I’m not comfortable with everything that I’m seeing. I’m not comfortable with everything that he’s doing, like you are. But the flip side to it is I’m willing to see the result before I engage in condemnation. See, that’s the problem. The partisanship, they’re already showing it.” he added.

He pointed out that exposing inefficient spending, such as funds allocated to overseas programs with questionable relevance to American interests, could resonate with taxpayers frustrated by domestic challenges being overlooked.

Smith’s perspective aligns with a broader sentiment favoring a reevaluation of government spending priorities, advocating for a focus on addressing pressing issues within the United States before extending resources abroad.
