In an effort to persuade Venezuela’s socialist government to accept deportation flights from the United States, Richard Grenell, who was nominated by President Donald Trump of the United States to serve as an envoy for special missions, flew to Venezuela on Friday.
Grenell is there to convince them to take back illegal aliens who are now living in the United States, many of them are members of the Tren de Aragua gang, according to an official from the Trump administration.
The White House and the State Department were working together to figure out how to best organize this trip.
Grenell is well-known for having a reputation for aggressively carrying out the president’s directives.
During the first term of President Trump, Grenell served as the United States Ambassador to Germany and then as the Acting Director of National Intelligence.
The trip comes as the Trump administration swiftly exerted pressure on Colombia’s Marxist government to change its position after the country had refused to allow incoming deportation aircraft from the United States.
“I would urge the Maduro government, the Maduro regime in Venezuela, to heed special envoy Ric Grenell’s message. Ultimately there will be consequences otherwise.” Mauricio Claver-Carone , Trump’s special envoy to Latin America. remarked.
