The co-chair of President-elect Trump’s newly formed “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE), Vivek Ramaswamy, has now reportedly announced his intention to run for the position of governor of Ohio.
Due to the fact that incumbent Republican Governor Mike DeWine of Ohio is at the end of his term, the governor’s house will be up for grabs in the year 2026.
The objective, according to one of the insiders, was for Ramaswamy to “get accomplishments at DOGE” before announcing his intention to run for governor.
This information was initially reported by the Washington Post. Ramaswamy’s intention, as reported by the Post, is to make an announcement regarding his intention to run for governor after DeWine has announced who will fill the Senate seat that will be vacant as a result of Vice President-elect JD Vance’s departure from the upper chamber.
Despite the fact that Ramaswamy was allegedly under consideration, it is anticipated that DeWine will appoint Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted to the position.
Despite the fact that he challenged Trump for the Republican nomination in 2024, Ramaswamy has been an ally of the president-elect for a very long time.
Ramaswamy is an entrepreneur in the field of biotechnology and a former candidate for the White House.
His name has been included in discussions about potential candidates for the Trump ticket, and he has referred to Trump as “the best president of the 21st century.”
Both Ramaswamy and Elon Musk, another tech entrepreneur, were selected by Trump to lead DOGE, an advisory body that is focused on reducing spending by the federal government.
It has been suggested by Trump that the work of DOGE should be completed by the middle of the year 2026, which may be just in time for Ramaswamy to make a possible run for the presidency.
