A Chicago citizen has been arrested and accused with threatening Illinois Republican gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey, threatening to skin him alive and feed his family to him.
According to the Chicago Sun Times, Scott Lennox, 21, made the threats on Friday after seeing a commercial for Bailey on a screen at a pub where he was enjoying a drink with several friends.
After seeing a political ad on one of the bar televisions, Lennox apparently grew enraged, resulting in an incident with his friends , after which he contacted Bailey’s office in Springfield, IL, to protest further.
Prosecutors claimed Lennox also addressed abortion in his unhinged and vulgar message, though the context was unclear.
They also said that Lennox acknowledged to not like Bailey’s opponent, incumbent Democrat Illinois Governor J. B. Pritzker, but claimed that he despised Bailey more.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Lennox with one felony offense of threatening a public official, one felony count of telephone harassment, and one felony count of internet harassment.
The schools linked with Bailey’s family were also placed on soft lockdown as a precaution.
Lennox’s bail has now been set at $75,000, but he has yet to post it
Judge Susana Ortiz of Cook County Circuit Court also forbade Lennox from having any contact with Bailey or any members of his family or employees, and ordered him to be electronically monitored as well.
