An ABC News investigative producer has reportedly not been seen by coworkers since the FBI searched his Virginia apartment in April.
He ‘abruptly’ departed the news network, withdrew from the book he was co-writing about Biden’s disastorous pullout from Afghanistan, and has remained extremely low-key ever since.
After the raid, James Gordon Meek, 52, left his house in Arlington, Virginia, and hasn’t been seen by his neighbors, in anyone else, since.
Rolling Stone originally reported the story, noting that, according to a source, FBI agents had recovered classified documents that had reportedly been in Meek’s possession.
The FBI, which frequently declines to comment on ongoing investigations as a matter of policy, has not yet stated why exactly the raid was conducted.
The warrant that allowed the raid to take place has not been made public, and Meek’s attorneys are being extremely tight-lipped about what they have been informed by the Bureau in the wake of the raid.
Meek’s attorney Eugene Gorokhov issued a statement in which he seemed to be purposefully opaque about what exactly was going on in the case.
“Mr. Meek is unaware of what allegations anonymous sources are making about his possession of classified documents. If such documents exist, as claimed, this would be within the scope of Mr. Meek’s long career as an investigative journalist covering government wrongdoing,” Gorokhov said. “Press inquiries on this issue are troubling for a different reason: they appear to be based on statements from a source inside the government. It is highly inappropriate, and illegal, for individuals in the government to leak information about an ongoing investigation.” He continued.
Meek withdrew from the book he was co-writing with veteran Green Beret Lt. Col. Scott Mann at the same time as the raid on his home.
Lt. Col. Mann was credited as the only author of the book when it was released in August.
According to neighbors, Meek fled following the raid on his residence.
They said he also had two kids who frequently visited his apartment.
According to the neighbors, the entire raid lasted about ten minutes.
They noticed a massive armored truck, as well as numerous local county cop cars during the event.
Meeks reportedly had formerly worked for the House Homeland Security Committee as a senior counterterrorism consultant and investigator in addition to his work as a producer and reporter for ABC.
Brian Epstein, another producer who worked on the program with him, also unexpectedly departed ABC earlier this year.
