According to a bombshell new report from the Washington Free Beacon, it appears that Arizona House candidate Kirsten Engel (D.) previously authored a far-left manifesto that called for the liquidation of much of the U.S. military in addition to socialist schemes to ‘redistribute’ wealth globally.
Engel and two co-authors welcomed the Earth Charter, an international statement that puts out a vision for a sustainable future, in a 2019 book.
The statement, which Engel’s father assisted in drafting in 2000, urges world governments including that of the U.S. to “convert military resources to peaceful purposes, including ecological restoration” as well as to ‘demilitarize’ many structures that support national security
The statement also advocated for a significant “redistribution of wealth” across the world.
The Democrat’s support for the Earth Charter and her father’s writings may raise eyebrows in Tucson, where the military and defense industries employ tens of thousands.
Davis-Monthan Air Force Base employs 16,000 people in the Tucson region alone and also generates $2.5 billion in revenue for the local economy.
Engel, a law professor at the University of Arizona, has also supported other contentious progressive issues that might jeopardize her aspirations to flip Arizona’s sixth congressional district.
For instance, in 2020, she sought funds for a criminal justice foundation that offered to pay bail for convicts who then went on to commit violent crimes.
During this year’s Democratic primaries, she also pledged to support reparations for slavery.
Engel is competing against Republican Juan Ciscomani for a seat that Democrats are attempting to flip in order to keep their House majority.
She has focused aggressively on abortion rights during her campaign, in an apparent attempt to to ride a wave of left-wing enthusiasm around the issue in the wake of the Supreme Court’s ruling earlier this summer to strike down Roe vs. Wade.
While the ‘Earth Charter’ doesn’t explicitly back abortion, it does explicitly call for significant limits to human population growth.
