The 2024 presidential field has been finalized by Vice President Harris’s selection of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) as her running mate, and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is now optimistic about the Republican Party’s prospects in November.
Johnson predicted that Republicans will achieve a major political victory this cycle during a new interview with The Hill iTuesday.
He also stated that Walz’s inclusion on the Republican ticket simplifies the situation for the party in the months leading up to November.
In the same vein, the Speaker was optimistic about his prospects of retaining the gavel in the upcoming Congress. Last year, Johnson achieved an unprecedented feat by securing the top position.
He is confident that the Republican conference will support his continued Speakership, a pursuit that will be bolstered by a successful performance in November.
“I like the match-up now. I’m pleased, for our purposes, that she chose Walz, because they can’t hide from their record and I don’t think it’s going to resonate with the people.” Johnson said.
“We were on trajectory, prior to all of the developments of the last few weeks, to have a decisive victory in both the House and the Senate for the Republican Party. I believe that we still are on that trajectory.” he continued.
“I’m very bullish about November,”Johnson concluded.
