According to the consulting firm Election Data Services, the states of Texas, Florida, Arizona, and Idaho are now reportedly projected to gain seats in the House of Representatives following the upcoming U.S. census in the year 2030.
In a news release issued on Friday, the company stated that if congressional reapportionment were to take place “today,” it would result in the gain of two seats in the House of Representatives in the states of Texas and Florida, as well as one seat in each of the states of Arizona and Idaho.
According to projections made by the United States Census Bureau for the year 2024, this is the population.
According to the firm’s population estimates, if apportionment were to take place right now, the state of California would lose two members, while the states of Illinois, Minnesota, New York, and Oregon would each lose one seat. In addition, Oregon would lose one seat.
There is also the possibility that Democrats will lose seats in states like as New York and California, which are among the most populous states in the United States.
Both the Empire State and the Golden State are currently regarded as strongholds of the left-leaning political ideology, and they have been essential to the success and influence of the Democratic Party in recent years.
The Republican Party, which now holds a slim majority in the House of Representatives, would benefit from an increase in seats in the four states that are typically considered to be on the right.
At the beginning of the following year, the House of Representatives is expected to be practically evenly divided between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party, with the Republican Party only leading by two seats, 217-215.
During an interview that took place earlier this month with Bret Baier of Fox News, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) was questioned about a claim that was published in The New York Times.
“Look, we’re excited about this. We’ve demonstrated already that we can govern with a small majority. And, I’m very confident that we can check the boxes and get this agenda done, and [it’ll be] very aggressive beginning right out of the gate.” Johnson claimed.
