Tulsi Gabbard, the candidate that President-elect Donald Trump has selected to be the next director of national intelligence (DNI), now reportedly has the support of the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC).

The NBPC sent a letter of support to Senator Tom Cotton, a Republican, who will be the next chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

“On behalf of the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC), I write to express our complete and total support for President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee to be the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), former U.S. Representative and Lieutenant Colonel Tulsi Gabbard. We have no doubt that Lt. Col. Gabbard is the right person to be the DNI and will work tirelessly to keep our nation safe, just as she has done for the past two decades,” the union announced in a letter.

Gabbard, a former member of Congress and a Democrat, was selected by Trump as one of his first nominees following his victory in the election held in November.

The nomination became effective when Trump announced it last month.

As Gabbard works to win over Republican support for her nomination despite the fact that she has only recently joined the party, the letter from the NBPC may prove to be beneficial.

Tuesday marked the beginning of Gabbard’s meetings with members of the Senate Intelligence Committee who are members of the Republican Party.

A visit to Senator John Cornyn of Texas is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, marking the conclusion of those meetings.

Gabbard was lauded by the NBPC)for her previous military service, which the organization stated embodies the characteristics that a competent DNI needs in order to take on the problems of maintaining a secure border within the context of national security.
