Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who was a prominent member of the socialist “Squad,” was reportedly unsuccessful in her recent attempt to become the leading Democrat on the influential House Oversight Committee.

It has been claimed that former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) supported the selection of Representative Gerry Connolly (D-VA) to become the ranking member of the committee that would continue to be under the leadership of the Republican Party in the coming year.

At the end of the voting process on Tuesday, it was announced that Connolly received 131 votes, while Ocasio-Cortez received 84 votes.

This result was consistent with the proposal made by the Steering and Policy Committee of the Democratic Party.

Despite claims that there was a movement within the Democratic Party to allow younger members to lead committees, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who is presently the vice-ranking member of the Oversight Committee, had attempted to advance her position during this time.

After becoming a prominent figure in leftist circles, the 35-year-old candidate became famous for his ability to defeat then-Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-NY), who was the fourth-ranked Democrat in the House at the time, in a primary election in 2018.

Ever since he joined Congress in 2009, Connolly, who is now 74 years old, has been serving on the oversight panel.

Connolly disclosed that he was suffering from esophageal cancer without exhibiting any symptoms, and he committed to continuing his employment throughout the course of his treatment.

The seat that Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) vacated in order to pursue a campaign for the ranking member position on the House Judiciary Committee will be filled by Connolly, who will take on the responsibilities that Raskin left behind.
