Late last week, President-elect Donald Trump made the announcement that he has selected former Representative Dave Weldon (R-Florida) to have the position of Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) come into effect.
From 1995 until 2009, Weldon, who is now 71 years old, was a member of the House that represented Florida. In the year 2008, he did not run for reelection.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is tasked with management of disease outbreaks, as well as the provision of information and scientific knowledge in the prevention and control of a wide variety of diseases.
The director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is accountable to the secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS).
“In addition to being a Medical Doctor for 40 years, and an Army Veteran, Dave has been a respected conservative leader on fiscal and social issues, and served on the Labor/HHS Appropriations Subcommittee, working for Accountability on HHS and CDC Policy and Budgeting,” Trump remarked in a new statement.
“Dave also served in a leading role in Government Oversight and Reform Committee Hearings, addressing issues within HHS and CDC. Dave has successfully worked with the CDC to enact a ban on patents for human embryos.” he continued.
“As a father of two and a husband of 45 years, Dave understands American Family Values, and views Health as one of utmost importance. Dave will prioritize Transparency, Competence, and High Standards at CDC. Dave will proudly restore the CDC to its true purpose, and will work to end the Chronic Disease Epidemic, and Make America Healthy Again!” Trump concluded.
After many years of “censorship, data manipulation, and misinformation,” the president-elect stated that it was essential for the American people to rebuild their trust in the government health authorities.
In a statement that was uploaded to X, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was president Trump’s choice to be the Secretary of Health and Human Services, expressed his approval of the selection.
Congratulations Dr. Dave Weldon on your nomination as Director of CDC. Dr. Weldon is a 40-year medical doctor, Congressman, and Army veteran. Dave’s leadership at CDC will bring the truth and transparency needed to restore the public’s confidence in this institution. Welcome… pic.twitter.com/hu8bHdSqKa
