On Thursday, Democratic Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania reportedly conceded defeat to his Republican opponent, Dave McCormick, in the campaign for the Senate seat in Pennsylvania.
“I just called Dave McCormick to congratulate him on his election to represent Pennsylvania in the United States Senate. As the first count of ballots is completed, Pennsylvanians can move forward with the knowledge that their voices were heard, whether their vote was the first to be counted or the last.” Casey said in a recently releases statement.
An automatic recount was started when the total number of votes was within the margin of one-half of one percent.
Two days after Election Day the Associated Press (AP) announced that McCormick had won the contest.
Decision Desk HG called the contest a week ago.
Only a few days had passed since the recount process was initiated in the Keystone State, when Casey made his comments.
In an order issued on Monday, the top court in the state stated that counties were not permitted to tally absentee and mail-in ballots that contained inaccurate or missing dates.
Casey, who is the son of a previous governor of Pennsylvania, has served in the upper chamber for three terms and had pledged to continue advocating for the working class and the middle class regardless of whether or not he is reelected for another six years.
After suffering a defeat at the hands of Dr. Mehmet Oz in the Republican primary for the Senate in 2022, McCormick, a businessman, emerged victorious in one of the most competitive Senate campaigns in the country.
“Senator Bob Casey dedicated his career to bettering our commonwealth. Dina and I want to extend our sincere gratitude to Senator Casey, Terese, and their family for their decades of service, hard work, and personal sacrifice,” McCormick said.
“I am so honored to represent every single citizen in Pennsylvania in the United States Senate and will fight for you every day. Thank you!” he concluded.
