Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R) retained her seat in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District, bringing Republicans closer to controlling both legislative chambers.
She faced off again with Democrat Christina Bohannan in a race the Cook Political Report recently rated as a “toss-up.” Notably, Miller-Meeks initially won her seat by just six votes in 2020.
Meanwhile, in New York, Laura Gillen has reportedly ousted Republican Rep. Anthony D’Esposito. He was among several freshman Republicans in districts President Biden carried in 2020, and the state itself leans heavily Democratic.
D’Esposito’s bid to retain his seat was complicated when when it was marred with scandal after a New York Times report claimed he hired both his fiancée’s daughter and his alleged affair partner after taking office. He denied the allegations, maintaining his ethical conduct, and dismissed its potential impact on the race.
In Nevada, Democrat Sen. Jacky Rosen is expected to secure reelection for a second term in a contest against Republican Sam Brown, according to reports.
Rosen, a former House representative secured another six years in one of the key Senate races this cycle, after fending off Brown, a retired Army captain and Purple Heart awardee.
Republicans have already won Senate majority with 52, after gaining three seats. In the two races that remain uncalled, Democrat Ruben Gallego is currently beating Republican Kari Lake 50.1% to 47.9% with an estimate 74% of votes counted.
In Pennsylvania, Republican David McCormick is narrowly edging out incumbent Sen. Bob Casey Jr. 48.9% to 48.5%.
The House is still up for grabs with Republicans in the lead with 213 seats and Democrats lagging with 199 seats in the race to 218 for majority.
