According to a new report, the Los Angeles Times, the largest newspaper in California, will not provide an endorsement for the 2024 presidential election.

This decision is a significant setback for Vice President Kamala Harris, as the newspaper has supported a Democrat in every White House race since 2008.

Semafor was informed by sources that executive editor Terry Tang informed the editorial board personnel earlier this month that the Los Angeles Times would not select a preferred presidential candidate.

The report stated that the decision was made by Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, an affluent biotech entrepreneur who acquired the newspaper in 2018.

The announcement is made precisely two weeks prior to Election Day, during which Harris is competing against former President Donald Trump in the White House race.

Despite the fact that national surveys generally indicate that Harris has a slight advantage, betting markets and polls suggest that Trump is gaining momentum and leading in critical battleground states.

The Los Angeles Times has provided Harris with support in previous campaigns, such as her 2010 and 2014 campaigns for California attorney general and her 2016 U.S. Senate campaign.

In their successful 2020 campaign against Trump, the newspaper also supported Harris as the running mate of now-President Joe Biden.
