A new poll has now revealed that over half of all Americans, including a quarter of Democrats, are in favor of the mass deportation of immigrants who are residing in the country illegally.

The results of the Scripps News/Ipsos survey are released during the 2024 election cycle, during which former President Trump and his supporters have prioritized immigration.

The immigration situation at the U.S.-Mexico border is being closely monitored by 59 percent of respondents, while approximately 54 percent of respondents—86 percent of Republicans, 58 percent of independents, and 25 percent of Democrats—said they “strongly” or “somewhat” support a wide-scale effort to deport millions of immigrants.

The survey also revealed that 39 percent of respondents identified immigration as their most pressing concern this election year, second only to inflation.

Despite the fact that a greater number of respondents in the Ipsos poll held a favorable opinion of Harris (45 percent) than of Trump (38 percent), the data was nearly reversed when asked to determine which candidate would be more effective in managing immigration: 44 percent of respondents believed that Trump would be more effective, while 34 percent believed that Harris would be more effective.

An additional 12 percent of respondents expressed their belief that neither candidate was capable of effectively managing immigration.

During a rally in Wisconsin on Tuesday, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, Trump’s Republican running companion, criticized Harris over immigration and public safety.

He contended that illegal immigration has had a devastating impact on communities throughout the country, including those located far from the U.S.-Mexico border.

A third of the respondents in the poll indicated that the primary concern regarding immigration should be the security of the U.S.-Mexico border, while 18 percent believed that widespread deportation should be the top priority.
