Kari Lake, the Republican Senate candidate for Arizona, reportedly accused the “fake news media” of “brainwashing” the would-be assassin of former President Donald Trump by promoting the “hatred” and “demonization” of the GOP presidential nominee.
On Sunday, Ryan Wesley Routh was apprehended after a Secret Service agent observed the barrel of his rifle positioned near the next hole on the golf course, where Trump was scheduled to play, and thwarted his alleged conspiracy to assassinate him.
The incident occurred at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Lake characterized the suspect as a “Trump Derangement Syndrome patient” who was influenced by anti-MAGA propaganda during an interview with host Todd Starnes on Newsmax on Sunday.
Lake discussed the suspect after the two contemplated the second unsuccessful assassination attempt against Trump.
“Thankfully they captured this man alive. I’m curious to hear more about what he’s all about. But it looks like he’s been very much a Trump Derangement Syndrome patient for a long time.” Lake said.
“You know, from what we know based on what we’re seeing on this guy’s social media, he was a registered Democrat and donor, anti-Israel, pro-Hamas, Hezbollah terrorist, heavily invested in getting Americans to go overseas to fight in Ukraine. He obviously hated President Trump. He loved Biden and Kamala. And he believed that Trump was a ‘threat to democracy’, as we keep hearing from the left.” she continued.
She persisted in her criticism of the mainstream media for its “anti-MAGA propaganda.”
“We’ve heard that quite a bit before. This guy actually fell hook line and sinker for every piece of anti-MAGA propaganda the media and the left have been spewing for years now. He wanted to kill President Trump, and we’ve got to stop this. I’m just calling on the media to stop what you’re doing. We are all Americans. Some people want President Trump. Many, many people want President Trump. Some might want Kamala Harris or, in my case, my opponent [in the race for Arizona senator], Ruben Gallego.” Lake added.
“We don’t have to push such hatred. And you, the media, the fake news media, I’m not talking about you, Todd, and Newsmax, but the usual suspects out there have been pushing this hatred. I believe this guy was brainwashed, and the media needs to do a whole lot more soul-searching and introspection about their role that they played in this. It’s demonization. It’s got to stop.” she continued.
