On Monday, President Joe Biden reportedly briefed pool reporters following the second attempt to assassinate former President Donald Trump.
Biden’s initial statement was, “Thank God the president’s okay,” followed by his assertion that the Secret Service requires additional assistance.
When a reporter inquired about the precise meaning of his statement, he clarified that it could refer to an increase in personnel, but the Secret Service was responsible for making the decision.
“Thank God the president’s okay. I think we’ve got a full report so far. We’re going down there tonight. But one thing I want to make clear — the service needs more help. And I think that Congress should respond to their needs if they in fact need more services. So that’s what we’re going to be talking about.” Biden said.
The FBI has initiated an investigation into the second unsuccessful assassination attempt on Trump, which transpired on Sunday while the president was golfing in Florida.
Ryan Wesley Routh, who was considered a potential gunman, was prevented from firing any bullets by the Secret Service.
In the aftermath of Routh’s arrest, Palm Beach County Police announced at a press conference that he had been concealed behind a shrub with a GoPro camera and an AK-47 rifle with a scope.
