In her first sit-down interview as the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris addressed several key issues, but the conversation is unlikely to satisfy her critics, writes The Washington Examiner. The interview, conducted b CNN alongside Democratic vice-presidential nominee Gov. Tim Walz highlighted Harris’s ongoing challenge of articulating anything with substance or explain how she’s anything more than putting lipstick on the pig that is the Biden administration’s failure.

The Examiner writes that the primary takeaway from the interview was Harris’s focus on economic issues as her “day one” priority. She emphasized a commitment to strengthening the middle class and defended “Bidenomics.” She mentioned plans to expand the child tax credit and provide a tax credit for first-time home buyers, which she believes are crucial for economic growth, but experts say will make the housing market much worse.

Harris also faced scrutiny over her shifting policy positions. She defended her stance on fracking, a contentious issue, particularly in Pennsylvania, by stating that she would not ban fracking, but also said that her “values have not changed” on the topic, belying her inability to really hide her radical side.

On the topic of illegal border crossings, Harris reiterated the importance of enforcing laws and ensuring consequences for those who cross the border illegally, highlighting her experience as a prosecutor and attorney general of a border state.

The interview also shed light on the pressure Harris may face from the left, especially regarding environmental policies like the Green New Deal. Harris reaffirmed her commitment to addressing the climate crisis but was careful to navigate the political sensitivities surrounding her previous support for the Green New Deal. This has led to some criticism from groups like the Sunrise Movement, who are pushing for more aggressive climate action.

At times her answers veered into Kamala’s typical word salad:

Another significant topic discussed was the Israel-Gaza conflict, where Harris firmly opposed an arms embargo on Israel despite calls from some within her party to adopt this position. Harris emphasized the importance of securing a deal to end the war and reiterated her commitment to a two-state solution that ensures security and self-determination for both Israelis and Palestinians.

Harris also took the opportunity to defend President Biden amid ongoing concerns about his age and mental acuity. She praised Biden’s leadership and dismissed the idea that she might have regrets about her public support for him, emphasizing his intelligence, commitment, and judgment.
