Chuck Todd, the chief political analyst of NBC News, criticized Vice President Kamala Harris’s media strategy as her campaign’s “first big mistake” prior to her interview with CNN.

CNN’s Dana Bash will conduct a joint interview with Harris and her running companion Tim Walz on Thursday evening, according to Harris’s campaign.

It will be the first significant interview she has conducted since ascending to the head of the Democratic Party ticket. Todd went on to contend that this is a significant problem for Harris and her team.

“Let me start with the first big mistake of the Harris campaign since she took over as the Democratic nominee. They have now raised the stakes for her first sit-down interview. More words and phrases will get scrutinized simply because the campaign and the candidate are behaving as if doing these interviews is about as interesting to them as visiting the dentist’s office,” Todd said.

“I know many Democrats have an allergy to all things Trump, but the one thing I thought more candidates would learn from his initial campaign in 2016 is that he viewed all media as good for him, whether he thought the interviewer was a friendly, a neutral, or an opponent,” he continued.

Todd argued that Harris should emulate Trump’s approach of exploiting all forms of media, recommending that she allocate one day per week to promote herself on cable news, podcasts, and other platforms instead of avoiding any interactions with the media as she has been doing since it was announced she would be replacing President Biden atop the ticket.
