The Cook Political Report, a nonpartisan organization, has now reportedly revised North Carolina’s presidential election from lean Republican to “toss up” as Vice President Harris’s lead over former President Trump continues to diminish.
Walter asserted that Harris and Trump are in a statistical tie with approximately 45.7 percent support each, citing polling averages from FiveThirtyEight and RealClearPolitics.
She observed that Trump has not lost political ground since President Biden’s resignation last month; the improvement in the Harris’s vote share is a result of her seven-point increase over Biden’s own previously low numbers.
The analysis indicates that Trump had a 45.6 percent support rate in FiveThirtyEight’s average on July 21, the day Biden withdrew from the campaign, compared to Biden’s 38.7 percent.
The change is the most recent indication of positive developments for Harris in North Carolina, a state that Biden failed to secure in 2020.
In North Carolina, Harris claims a 1.1 percentage point advantage over Trump, according to a polling index conducted by The Hill and Decision Desk HQ.
Since Biden was replaced as the Democratic presidential nominee last month, Harris has experienced a significant increase in support.
Nevertheless, certain Democrats and political strategists have cautioned that it is premature to draw any conclusions about the November election and that Harris’s momentum may wane between now and Election Day.
