Despite its endorsement of Republican Kari Lake in her gubernatorial campaign last cycle, the Arizona Police Association announced on Monday that it is supporting Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) in the Arizona Senate race.

Gallego’s advocacy for legislation such as the Enhancing COPS Hiring Program Grants for Local Law Enforcement Act and the Invest to Protect Act was acknowledged by the association.

Just a few days ago, the organization supported former President Trump in the presidential campaign against Vice President Harris.

The Arizona Police Association’s decision to issue a split-party endorsement is particularly noteworthy in light of the fact that it previously supported Lake during her 2022 governorship campaign against Gov. Katie Hobbs (D).

Nevertheless, Lake has received endorsements from other law enforcement organizations, such as the Arizona Conference of Police and Sheriffs and the Arizona Law Enforcement Association.

Gallego is currently leading Lake by 48 percent to 42 percent, according to an aggregate of Arizona surveys compiled by Decision Desk HQ.
