Three-term Democratic Senator Jon Tester reportedly may be in jeopardy in Montana, according to a survey released Wednesday.

He is trailing Republican rival Tim Sheehy by six points.

According to a recent study from American Pulse Research and Polling, 44.7% of potential Montana voters support Tester, who is facing a challenging re-election campaign in a state that former President Donald Trump won by 16 points in 2020.

Sheehy, on the other hand, has 50.8% support. Nearly four percent of those polled said they were still undecided.

NonStop LOCAL, a regional news network that covers parts of Washington, Idaho, and Montana, commissioned American Pulse to poll 538 potential Montana voters.

The study was conducted from August 10 to 12, just days after Trump’s event in Bozeman, and has a 4.2% margin of error.

Montana’s Senate contest is regarded as one of the most important in the 2024 election, with Democrats aiming to maintain their majority and Republicans hoping to take control.

The top topics for all voters polled were inflation and economic issues (27.6%), affordable housing (15.2%), and immigration and border security (14.3%).

Voters supporting Trump and Sheehy prioritized inflation, immigration, and taxation, but those supporting Vice President Kamala Harris and Tester prioritized affordable housing, democracy, and inflation.

The poll also revealed that Trump leads Harris by 14 points in Montana, which is consistent with his victories in 2016 and 2020.

During his Friday event in front of 8,000 fans at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse in Bozeman, Trump and other senior Montana Republicans urged the crowd to vote for Sheehy in November.
