Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota, reportedly advocated for Minnesota to become a sanctuary state and signed legislation that permits illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses.
Walz, a two-term liberal Democrat governor from Minnesota, was selected by Vice President Kamala Harris as her running mate on Tuesday.
Walz has a history of advocating for extreme left-wing policies on unauthorized immigration, which is one of the most pressing issues on the minds of voters as the November election approaches.
“My position on Minnesota becoming a sanctuary state boils down to who has the responsibility for enforcing immigration laws. Here’s what I believe: Congress has given federal agencies the authority to enforce immigration laws in Minnesota, and I support their doing so.” Walz remarked at the time.
Walz explicitly advocated for Minnesota to become a sanctuary state during his 2018 gubernatorial campaign, ensuring that illegal immigrants would be protected from deportation.
Sanctuary states do not collaborate with federal immigration enforcement officials, which enables illegal immigrants who have been charged with violent offenses to remain in the country.
A letter to Waltz was written by Michigan Republicans earlier this year, in which they expressed their apprehensions regarding legislation that would officially prohibit local law enforcement from collaborating with federal immigration enforcement.
In 2023, Walz enacted legislation as governor that permitted up to 81,000 illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses. Critics contend that the radical policy promotes and incentivizes illegal immigration.
Recent polls have revealed that immigration is one of the most significant issues for voters as the November election inches ever closer.
