The likely Democratic presidential nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, came under fire late on Thursday night on social media for remarks she made on an airport tarmac regarding the return of three Americans who had been wrongly imprisoned in Russia.
Shortly after arriving on American territory, President Joe Biden and Senator Elizabeth Harris greeted Wall Street Journal writer Evan Gershkovich, former U.S. Marine Paul Whelan, and Russian-American journalist Alsu Kurmasheva on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.
During the event, Harris made a strange remark to attending journalists which was later panned by observers online.
“This is just extraordinary testament to the importance of having a president who understands the power of diplomacy and understands the strength that rests in understanding the significance of diplomacy and strengthening alliances. This is an incredible day.” Harris said.
