President Joe Biden’s final speech brought tears and applause from family and loyal staff as he announced his decision to exit the 2024 campaign.

Delivering his likely final address to the nation, the president announced his decision to exit the 2024 campaign. The emotional 11-minute speech, given from the Oval Office, allegedly brought tears and applause from his family and loyal staff.

The Daily Mail writes that his family sat by during the speech, looking somber.

First lady Jill Biden, his wife of 47 years, was the first by his side after he finished. She joined him at the Resolute Desk followed by son Hunter, who gave his dad a hug. Hunter’s daughter Finnegan and the Bidens’ daughter Ashley also hugged the president with Finnegan wiping away tears as she turned away from her grandfather.

Ashley’s husband Howard Krein was also present as were other Biden grandchildren including Naomi Biden Neal and her husband Peter Neal, young Hunter Biden (the late Beau Biden’s son) and Maisy Biden.

Staff in the room included Mike Donilon, Biden’s longtime aide who has been there since the start of his political career; press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, and Biden’s deputy chief of staff Annie Tomasini.

Then the crew joined other staff out in the Rose Garden, where ice cream – the president’s favorite treat – was being served.

Trump immediately criticized the speech, in which Biden clearly believed he was attacking the Republican nominee, as a campaign speech. His campaign has demanded equal time from the television networks that carried it live.

Biden’s Oval Office address came after the president resisted weeks of pressure from Democrats to stand down following a disastrous debate performance against Donald Trump on June 27. At one point, he went as far as saying that only the “Lord Almighty” could persuade him to leave.

After days of soul searching, and polling showed him losing New Mexico, in November, he ultimately decided to step aside.

The speech comes as rumors fly about a rift between the Bidens and the Obamas that contends that the former president was “furious” about the current president’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris. The former president has made some shocking claims about the new presumptive nominee.
