With Joe Biden finally thrown overboard, the Democrats are once again rolling in dough as the megadonors who launched a political coup against the sitting president have reopened their wallets.
Deadline writes that Harris has broken Democrats out of their doldrums and cash is flowing in to defeat Donald Trump.
Kamala Harris‘ presidential campaign raised $81 million in the past 24 hours, setting a record for the amount amassed in one day largely from small dollar donors.
Shortly after Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race on Sunday and endorsed Harris, the vice president officially launched her campaign, with the Biden-Harris operation rebranded as Harris for President.
The campaign said that 888,0000 donors contributed in the past 24 hours, and 60% of them were making their first contribution of the 2024 cycle.
Harris said in a statement on Sunday that “my intention is to earn and win this nomination.” So far, though, there are no other major rivals, as a succession of Democratic lawmakers and other elected officials have endorsed her candidacy. So too have a series of governors — including Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania and Gavin Newsom of California — who had been seen as potential rivals.
Some are skeptical that the money is really from nearly a million voters rather than an elicit way to launder money to violate campaign finance restrictions.
Investigations into the Democrat’s online fundraising outfit, Act Blue, revealed that the site is rampant with fraud. One researcher in North Carolina, for example, revealed that liberals have often used “zombie donors,” that is, the names and addresses of elderly people, to funnel millions to liberal candidates, potentially from foreign actors.
ActBlue does not require a credit card CVV number.
Florida Senator Marco Rubio has demanded that the Federal Election Commission investigate the matter.
“Two weeks ago, alarming reports emerged of fraudulent donations being reported to the FEC by ActBlue,” Rubio wrote in a letter to the FEC chairs. “These reports indicate that numerous individuals, including senior citizens, have purportedly donated to ActBlue thousands of times a year. However, according to recent investigative reports, many of these individuals had no idea that their names and addresses were being used to give thousands of dollars in political donations, with most of these ‘donations’ going to ActBlue.”
“It should come as no surprise that ActBlue serves as vessel for fraud, considering the intentional lack of security engrained within their donation processes and systems,” Rubio wrote to the FEC.
Fox News reported that The James O’Keefe Media Group spoke to seniors on fixed incomes “who were stunned to learn that their names and addresses were used to donate thousands of dollars to ActBlue.”
