Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear (D) has now reportedly backed Vice President Harris for president Monday morning, amid speculation that he could be her running mate.
“I am excited to fully endorse Vice President Harris for the next president of the United States. The vice president is smart and strong which will make her a good president. But she’s also kind and has empathy, which can make her a great president,” Beshear said during a recent appearance on ‘Morning Joe.’
Beshear raised his profile among Democrats by becoming governor of a ruby-red state. Last year, he defeated a Trump-backed GOP candidate to gain reelection in a state that former President Trump won twice: 2016 and 2020.
Endorsements for Harris have steadily increased since President Biden pulled out of the contest on Sunday and endorsed her as his replacement.
While it is not certain that Harris will not face a rival, it appears like the majority of the drama will be in selecting her running mate, and a number of governors and senators may be considered.
“The contrast between her and those running on the other side couldn’t be clearer. The vice president is ready, she has my full endorsement, I’m going to do everything I can to support her.” Beshear concluded in a statement.
